PPG Newsletter Issue No. 35

End of School Year Report 2017-2018

By Dr. Jessica Xu

The PPG has had an amazing third school year and it is hard to believe that summer is almost here.

The 4thAnnual Keep Myopia Away in Digital Age campaign is gaining more momentum in general public.  More parents are becoming aware of the escalation of myopia and Computer Vision Syndrome among children and teens, as well as ways to prevent these health problems so common among school children nowadays.  The inaugural Spanish Poetry Contest led by Richard Mason attracted more than forty entries from Spanish learners in PUSD high schools.  Three judge volunteers are busy reviewing the entries.  We will announce the three winners at the end of summer.  Also, the 4thAnnual Student Mandarin Initiative Poster Competition is on track to kick off this month.

All these accomplishments would not be possible without the selfless service of our parent volunteers.  PPG relies 100% on parent volunteers.  We are seeking five more volunteers with experienced leadership skills to join our executive team: VP of Community Outreach, VP of Fundraising, VP of Legal Affairs, Project Lead for Public Oversight of PUSD Financials, and Project Lead for Supporting Spanish Initiative.  If interested, please email info@pusdparents.org.  Include relevant experience, your goals for the position and mark the subject line accordingly.

PPG also seeks articles for the Newsletter.  The article needs to be concise and not exceed one page. PPG welcomes creative ideas, constructive suggestions and healthy debates from all stakeholders in the PUSD community. If you are interested in submitting an article to PPG Newsletter, email info@pusdparents.org .

Lastly, don’t forget to LIKE US on Facebook.  With the 2018 election coming soon, PPG will post relevant information on its Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/PUSDParentsGroup/ ).  PPG encourages all parents to learn more about crucial issues facing PUSD and positions of each candidate to become an informed voter in November.

On behalf of PPG board and executive team, we wish everyone a great summer!  See you in September.
