PPG Community Events Update

By Dr. Jessica Xu

Hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween celebration!

Thank you to all PPG members and guests who attended PPG’s 2nd Annual Meeting at the beautiful Lake Poway.  We would like to thank California Senator Toni Atkins for providing certificates to our student artists who participated in PPG’s 3rd annual Student Mandarin Initiative Poster Competition in support of greater cultural education in PUSD, Adobe Bluffs Elementary School  representative and Mandarin Initiative Coordinator Ms. Julie Li for presenting the current status of mandarin FLES program at ABES and PUSD’s plan to launch mandarin immersion program in near future, and Enjoy Fun Corporation for its generous sponsorship to award prizes to student winners as well as souvenirs to all student participants.  Last but not the least, huge thanks to Dr. Yan Yang for chairing the Annual Meeting Committee, Dr. Jessica Xu, Ms. Ying Tao and Ms. Viola Su for co-organizing the event, and all parent volunteers who made the event enjoyable and memorable.  For more photos, visit http://pusdparents.org/photo-gallery/ .

PPG’s 3rd Annual Student Mandarin Initiative Poster Competition concluded successfully.  Students from PUSD schools submitted 102 posters this year.  Selected posters were exhibited at Design 39 and Adobe Bluffs Elementary School subsequently.  To all student participants, please come to  Grace School (16450 Via Esprillo, San Diego, CA 92127) by November 30, 2017 to receive a small souvenir for participating in this year’s poster contest.  Huge thanks to Mao Kunyuan, an art teacher at Learning Tree and UCSD Art Department, Ji Huijuan, a Mandarin teacher at Design 39, and Li Dan, an art teacher and artist, for volunteering as the judges. To view the twelve winning posters and photos of exhibitions, visit http://pusdparents.org/photo-gallery/.

Going forward, PPG plans to launch the inaugural Student Spanish Poetry Competition across PUSD this coming year.  We need five parent volunteers to serve at the committee.  If interested, please email info@pusdparents.org by November 30, 2017 and mark the subject line “Spanish Poetry Competition Committee”.

PPG relies 100% on parent volunteers.  The vast majority of PPG volunteers are working parents with extremely hectic schedules.  The more volunteers, the easier it would be for everyone. We appreciate everyone’s contribution.  To become a PPG volunteer, email info@pusdparents.org .
